Antoinette van Speyk registered Blinds, Drapes & Bedding in 2005. She personally sews or closely supervises the manufacturing of every product that leaves her workroom.

Sewing has always been Antoinette’s passion. She remembers sewing her first apron under her mother’s watchful eye at age three and her first patchwork cushion shortly thereafter. She loved doing Needlework as a subject in High School and excelled at it. After sewing home furnishings for her first apartment, she was soon doing the same for friends as they moved into their own spaces.

During extensive travels in Africa, Europe, China and the USA, Antoinette explored textiles from around the world to gain knowledge in this field. She has also exported hand-woven African textiles and ceremonial masks to the UK and USA.

Shortly after immigrating to Canada in 2000, Antoinette became involved in sewing drapes, roman blinds, seat covers, duvet covers and other soft home furnishings. She is creative and has a reputation for doing precise and neat work, paying special attention to detail. Her products are unique because of the quality workmanship and functionality they provide.

Her passion for textiles and soft home furnishings that are both beautiful and functional shows in her work. She finds it immensely satisfying to see finished pieces installed and appreciated by clients.

Antoinette van Speyk was born in Cape Town, South Africa. She has an Honours Degree in Drama and Theatre Arts as well as a Teaching Diploma from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. Her successful career of 25 years in the Film and Television Industry has given her the opportunity to live and work all over her native South Africa, the rest of Africa, Europe, China, the USA and Canada.
